The Fitness Experiment is just that… an experiment. I created this site in 2023 as I continued to explore various methods of improving my fitness.
My Background
I’m about 20 years into my fitness journey and I still find new methods of training on a monthly basis. I love to experiment—with different workouts, entirely different sports, new training tools, etc.
Competitively, I’ve participated in the following sports:
- Team Sports (baseball, basketball, soccer, football)
- Running (marathons, trail running, ultramarathons)
- CrossFit
- Triathlon (sprint & olympic distance)
- Obstacle Course Racing (Spartan, Tough Mudder, local races)
- DEKA FIT (and all variations of Spartan DEKA)
- HYROX (soon… will be doing my first one this year)
Recreationally, I’ve experimented with everything from paddle boarding to tennis to trapeze to snowshoeing, and everything in between.
I’ve used a ton of different training tools over the years, and almost every one of them has their place. Similarly, almost every type of workout has its place… so long as it’s part of a varied, intentional training program.
The Hybrid Fitness “Movement”
I’m a firm believer that movement is medicine, and constantly varied functional movement (shoutout CrossFit) is one of the best things we can do to stay healthy, and improve our fitness.
“Hybrid fitness” is growing in popularity as brands like HYROX and Spartan DEKA produce more and more events each year. While I think “hybrid fitness” is an ambiguous, overhyped phrase being seized by social media influencers, I have a deep appreciation for the type of training that it has incentivized.
About This Site
This site pays tribute to the near infinite ways we can move our body and train for life. We’ll cover the elite athlete side of many of the hybrid fitness events, as well as provide practical training advice and education to help you get and stay fit. We’ll also help you find affordable equipment for your training, and cut through the noise of all the ridiculous fitness trends that are thrown around haphazardly.
We also love research, and hope to make it easier for you to do your homework. Most people don’t have time to listen to 5 hours worth of podcasts only to come away with 3 small tips they can apply to their training. We’ll pull together the foremost experts in specific fields of health & fitness, and summarize their findings. You can expect condensed video clips, summarized bullet points, and practical fitness advice you can implement right away.
