GORUCK Partnership

On May 3, 2023, Spartan announced that it was partnering with GORUCK. DEKA FIT Ruck is now DEKA FIT GORUCK.

In an Instagram post Spartan DEKA said:

We are thrilled to announce that @goruck is our new official partner for our ruck division at all DEKA FIT events. GORUCK produces the world’s toughest gear, and is leading the rucking revolution through training, events, and official GORUCK clubs all over the world. GORUCK is a name that is symbolic with excellence in the rucking world, and is a natural fit as a partner as we both level-up the ruck experience inside the DEKA arena.

All DEKA FIT GORUCK finishers will receive an official DEKA GORUCK finisher’s patch, with the top three finishers earning gold, silver, and bronze-trimmed patches.

DEKA FIT GORUCK Weights

What are the weights for DEKA FIT GORUCK?

  • Men wear a 30lb ruck
  • Women wear a 20lb ruck

Rucksack vs. Backpack vs. Weight Vest

  • All rucksacks & backpacks are allowed for DEKA FIT Ruck
  • Weight vests are not allowed

Weight vests are prohibited because most models allow for weight to be placed on the front of the body. A rucksack or backpack places all the weight on the athlete’s back.

Can I bring my own rucksack or backpack?
Yes, you can use your own rucksack or backpack. However, GORUCK will provide ruck rentals with the option to purchase at every DEKA FIT event. It’s unclear how much the GORUCK rentals cost, or if they are provided for free.

The official DEKA FIT GORUCK rules state:

Any brand of rucksack or backpack is allowed.
Any type of weight implement is allowed.

Weigh In/Out

DEKA FIT GORUCK requires all athletes to weigh their pack before they start their heat, as well as immediately upon completion of their heat. This ensures all athletes completed the event with the required weight stated in the DEKA FIT rules.

DEKA FIT will provide a scale at the event for the athletes to use. It is the athletes responsibility to make sure they have the required amount of weight in their pack.

What can I use to fill my pack?
There are no requirements on what you use to fill your pack. As long as the pack weighs the correct amount, you are good to go. You can use weight plates, sandbags, books, clothes, or whatever you can find.

Ruck Heats

For most (if not all) 2023 DEKA FIT events, the ruck division will launch alongside the open heats. Typically, this will be in the early afternoon, around 1:00pm local time.

DEKA FIT GORUCK Rules

For 9 of the 10 zones, all standard DEKA FIT rules apply. For Zone 4, the med ball situp, there is a modification for the ruck division.

Athletes will perform a rucksack situp instead of a med ball situp.

  1. Athletes will remove their rucksack upon entering Zone 4
  2. The rep starts with the athlete laying on their back, touching their rucksack to the ground over their head
  3. They will sit up and press the rucksack overhead until it touches the metal plate.
  4. 25 rucksack situps are required to be completed
  5. You must place your rucksack back on before exiting the zone
