RAMfit, the makers of the RAMroller used in all Spartan DEKA events, have come out with a workout challenge. It was first posted on their Instagram on July 30th, in collaboration with Yancy Culp, one of the co-founders of Spartan DEKA. RAMfit said there’s a chance to win a free RAM if you finish the challenge, post your score, and tag them in a post. It’s unclear how many RAMs they are giving away or how they are choosing a winner.
The Workout
The RAM Challenge is as follows:
- Start timer
- Row 500m
- AMRAP RAM Burpees (55/33) until timer reaches 3 minutes
- This completes 1 round
- Repeat for a total of 8 rounds (24 minutes)
- Score: Total RAM burpees completed across all 8 rounds
The timer is not stopped between rounds. Quick transitions are important.
RAM Weight
Keep in mind, the RAM weight is 55lbs for men and 33lbs for women. This is 11lbs heavier than the DEKA standard for RAM burpees in Zone 10.
Scores
RAMfit is challenging someone to go 100+ reps. To put this in perspective, you’d have to row sub-2:00, and average under 5 seconds per burpee. A 2:00 row gives you 1:00 left for burpees. A burpee every 5 seconds gives you 12 burpees per round, for a total of 96. But that doesn’t include transition time getting in and out of the rower.
100+ reps is definitely doable, but you’ll have to really push to get there. I’m sure some of the elite DEKA FIT & HYROX athletes could do it. If you decide to give it a shot, we’d love to hear how it went for you.

I don’t currently have easy access to a RAMroller, but if I can get my hands on one soon, I’ll call my shot at 74 reps. I’ll let you know what I actually scored.
