On September 9th, 2023, Rylan Schadegg headed up to PowerSeeker CrossFit in Meridian, Idaho to take on a DEKA STRONG. Rylan’s been sidelined from running for the past 12 weeks or so with an injury, but he’s clearly been working on his fitness while he rehabs his foot injury.
Rylan set a new world record in DEKA STRONG of 10:33, taking down Ryan Kent‘s previous record of 11:05 set earlier this year. Taking 32 seconds off this record is a massive improvement, and honestly, one I didn’t think we’d see go down this year. He’s the first hybrid athlete ever to go under 11 minutes in a DEKA STRONG.
Since DEKA STRONG doesn’t involve any running, it kind of makes sense that Rylan’s training over the past 3 months would line up perfectly for this type of event. On Rylan’s Instagram, he’s talked about turning his injury into a positive. Maybe it’s a sign that his body needed a break from running, or that he might have been overdoing it. Instead of making excuses, Schadegg found other ways to continue training and improving on his already impressive fitness.
We hope to see Rylan at the 2023 DEKA World Championships. Last year, Rylan had an impressive showing at the 2022 DEKA Worlds:
- 2nd in DEKA MILE
- 3rd in DEKA FIT
- 4th in DEKA STRONG
So far this year, Rylan has the fastest DEKA FIT time at 29:09, not to mention he’s still the current world record holder for DEKA FIT with a 28:28 he put up at DEKA FIT West Palm in Florida last year.
It doesn’t look like Schadegg has a qualifying time for DEKA MILE yet, but we hope to see him compete at both the DEKA FIT and DEKA STRONG at this year’s World Champs. He’s a threat to win both.
DEKA MILE World Records the Next Day 🤯
That’s not a typo. Records, plural. After setting a new world record in DEKA STRONG on Saturday, Rylan turned around and set TWO new world records on Sunday in DEKA MILE.
We still haven’t confirmed Rylan’s official time, but rumor has it he set a new world record in DEKA MILE with a time of 16:13.
A few hours later, he teamed up wit Greyson Kilgore for the men’s DEKA MILE Team, and the two of them smashed that world record as well.
That’s THREE world records for Rylan Schadegg this weekend… after being injured for 3ish months and not racing. He unlocked something special with his training, and the DEKA world has been put on notice.
