So one of your crazy, fit friends jumped on the bandwagon and signed up for a HYROX. And you’re a great friend so you’ve decided to watch them compete.
What’s it like to be a spectator at a HYROX event? How much do HYROX spectator tickets cost?
The HYROX spectating experience is many things. Expect loud music, shoulder to shoulder crowds, a line to get in and out of the race area, bleachers to catch the action, sponsors, vendors, little food, some alcohol, tons of merch for sale, and did I mention loud & crowded?
Come along as I take you on the journey of a HYROX spectator. Let’s start with tickets. Wait, you mean it’s not free to watch?! Unfortunately not…
HYROX Spectator Tickets
If you’re not racing HYROX but want to watch a friend or family member compete, there is a spectator fee. Fees vary based on region, but in the U.S., you can expect to pay $10/day. Many HYROX events span multiple days, and there is usually a discount for buying a weekend-long pass.
Children under 12 do not require a spectator ticket but must be accompanied by an adult with valid ticket.
Some venues offer free spectator tickets for adults age 65+ and those with disabilities.
Where to Buy Tickets
HYROX spectator tickets are available in advance on the HYROX website.

- Navigate to the event you’ll be attending
Locate your local HYROX website here → - Click the “Buy Tickets Here” button
- Click on “Spectator Tickets”
- Locate the spectator tickets for a particular day (or all weekend long)

Spectator tickets can sell out at some events. If tickets are still available, they may be purchased on-site at your HYROX event.

Do athletes need HYROX spectator tickets?
No. If you are competing in HYROX on any day throughout the weekend, you do not need to purchase a spectator ticket. You have access to the venue for the entirety of the weekend.
What to Expect
Spectating a HYROX event is a unique experience. It’s different from most CrossFit events, and maybe unlike any sporting event you’ve attended before. At a HYROX event you can expect:
- Loud music, all day long
- Lines to get in & out of the spectator area (5-15 minute waits)
- Several vendor/sponsor booths
- Large merchandise area, for HYROX & Puma gear
- Alcoholic drinks available for purchase
- Limited food & drink (only what’s available just outside the venue)
You’ll be in a large conference hall with concrete floors, and walking around a lot to watch your friends & family compete. If you’re not used to this, your feet and joints might get tired. Choose footwear carefully.
Bathrooms
There are ample bathrooms at most venues, but they are usually located outside of the race area. If you’re watching the race, you might need to walk 5 minutes, then wait 5-10 minutes to cross the running track to exit the race, then walk another few minutes to the bathroom.
At peak times, expect to wait a few minutes.
Food/Drink
Most HYROX races don’t sell much food or drink inside the race area. There might be a small booth with one attendant selling bottles of water, a few carbonated beverages, and maybe some chips or bananas. But that’s about it.
Some convention centers have a food court, or a few food vendors in the hallway outside of race area.
The other option is to walk to a nearby restaurant within a few blocks of the venue.
Crowds
Most HYROX events have anywhere between 4,000-9,000 athletes participating throughout the weekend. Once you add spectators, volunteers, and staff to that list, you can see how crowded it can get.
Many events span multiple days, so these numbers a bit spread out, but you can expect 2,000-5,000 people at the venue at any one time. Expect to be rubbing shoulders with folks as you move around to watch your athlete at different stations.
Photos/Videos
Spectators are allowed and encouraged to take photos/videos of their athletes. A few things to keep in mind:
- Beware of your surroundings
- Don’t impede any athletes on the course
- Other spectators are trying to watch their athletes as well. Be considerate.
Taking a Break
There is limited seating at most HYROX events. I’ve seen spectators (and athletes) sitting on the ground in the hallways surrounding the race area.
You’ll likely want to escape the loud race area and take a break in the hallway at some point. It might be a good idea to bring a camping chair, soft mat, or something to sit or lay down on. Otherwise, you could find yourself sitting on a thinly carpeted concrete floor.
