If you’re trying to qualify for the World Championship, it’s important to know which HYROX age group you belong to. Each age group gets a certain number of qualifying spots.
You might also just want to compete with others in the same age group, and see how you stack up on the leaderboard. Does HYROX use your age on a particular date? When will you bump up into the next age category?
So what are the HYROX age groups?
We answer all this, and more, along with extensive charts that outline all the age groups for HYROX for all divisions—singles, doubles, open, pro, and team relay.
2025/26 Season: We’re actively awaiting the rulebook for the 2025/26 season, which should come out around mid-June, when the 2025 HYROX World Championship takes place. We expect a few changes to age groups at that time, which we will update promptly here.
Singles/Solos
For HYROX Singles, your age is determined by your age on race day. This is the same age group you will compete in at the HYROX World Championship, regardless of how old you are on the date of the Championship.
Here are the age groups for singles competing in HYROX, for both the Open & Pro divisions, in the regular season:

HYROX Pro Division
The HYROX Pro Division age groups stop at 55-59. Currently, if you’re 60+, you cannot compete in the HYROX Pro division during the regular season. If you want a time on the leaderboard, you need to compete in the Open division.
However, you can still qualify for the World Championship by competing in the Open division. At World Champs, HYROX invites the top athletes in the following Open age groups:
- 60-64
- 65-74
Both of these divisions use the Open weights at World Championships, whereas all divisions 59 and under use the Pro weights.
Doubles
HYROX Doubles age groups are determined by:
- the age of the athletes on race day, and
- the average age of both athletes
For example, if one athlete is 28 and the other is 30, their average age is 29 and that team would belong in the 20-29 age group.
HYROX Doubles Age Groups
- 16-29
- 30-39
- 40-49
- 50-59
- 60-69
- 70+ (not currently invited to the World Championship)
HYROX Pro Doubles Age Groups
HYROX Pro Doubles age groups are the same as above, except they stop at age 69. There is no Pro Doubles age group in the regular season for teams with an average age over 69 years old. If your average age is 70 or above, and you want to be included on the HYROX leaderboard, you must use the lighter weights, and you cannot compete in the Pro division.
However, HYROX still invites Pro Doubles teams up to age 79 to the World Championship. Everyone 60-79 competes in the same category, and uses the Open weights.
- 16-29
- 30-39
- 40-49
- 50-59
- 60-69 (compete with Open weights at World Championship)
Starting in the 2025/26 season, the Pro Doubles age groups will stop at 59.
Mixed Doubles
The weights for Mixed Doubles are the same at the Championship as they are during the regular season. No changes are made to the weights used, regardless of age group.

Elite 15 Pro Doubles
Starting in the 2024/25 season, HYROX introduced an Elite 15 Pro Doubles category. This category exists to find the 15 best male & female Pro Doubles teams in the world, regardless of age. Therefore, the Elite 15 Pro Doubles category does not have any age groups or restrictions. Anyone 16 years of age or older, and any average age between teammates, can compete in the Elite 15 Pro Doubles category at World Championships.
Relay
HYROX Relay age groups are determined by:
- the age of the athletes on race day, and
- the average age of all 4 athletes
For example, if your team member’s ages are 20, 20, 30, and 30, that totals 100. 100 divided by 4 equals 25. Your team’s average age is 25, and you would be in the U40 age group.
HYROX Relay Age Groups
There are only two age groups for the HYROX Relay division:
- U40 (16-39)
- 40+
World Championship Qualification
For the HYROX Relay division, there are no qualification spots to race at World Championships. Only HYROX Singles & Doubles categories race at World Championships.
HYROX hosts a Team Relay Invitational race at World Championships, but this is by invitation only. HYROX selects a team captain from each of 20 countries, and that athlete selects 3 other athletes from their country to comprise their team.

FAQ
Can I compete in multiple divisions?
Yes. Both during the regular season and at the World Championship, you may compete in multiple divisions, as long as the start times for those races do not overlap. Check the schedule for your local race to see if your time slots overlap.
