Over the past few years, elite-level CrossFit athletes have started to see what this HYROX thing is all about. Sam Briggs & Adam Klink paved the way back in 2020, but it took until 2023 for us to see a barrage of athletes take the floor.
Since then, over 20 high level CrossFitters have completed a HYROX. Some, like Kristi O’Connell & Ricky Garard, jumped right into the Pro division. Others chose to go the doubles route and compete with a partner.
We’ve been tracking the big name athletes that have crossed over from CrossFit to HYROX. Here’s a list of all the CrossFit athletes that have completed a HYROX, along with their finishing time and placement.
CrossFit Athlete Current HYROX Times
This list consists of high-level athletes and big names in the sport of CrossFit. There are, of course, many CrossFit athletes that take on a HYROX every weekend.
For official times, please visit the HYROX results page.
NOTE: When comparing times, keep in mind that each course is slightly different, standards of movement may have changed over time, and some races took place during COVID on treadmills.

CrossFit Athletes at HYROX
Ricky Garard
2022’s 3rd Fittest Man on Earth, Ricky Garard, finally gave us the HYROX debut we were waiting for. Ricky finished second at HYROX Sydney in 2023.
Garard is known for his endurance, both on his feet and his mountain bike.
In the 2022 CrossFit Games, he finished first in the only two workouts that exceeded 30 minutes.
- Bike to Work, which consisted of two 5-mile bike rides, broken up with toes-to-bar and chest-to-bar pullups.
- The Capitol, which consisted of a 3.5-mile run, and ended with heavy jerry can carries and a bag carry up the stairs to the Capitol building in Madison, WI.
Bike to Work took about 37 minutes and The Capitol took about 32 minutes. While this isn’t quite the same time domain as a HYROX, it’s long enough to prove he’s got an incredible engine. And there’s no doubt he’s pound-for-pound stronger than just any other HYROX athlete to take the stage.
Ricky also finished 2nd and 3rd in a two-part workout that consisted of 400m, 600m, and 800m runs, combined with max reps of a 300lbs jerk. He’s proven he can run long, run short, and lift heavy… all things that bode well for a HYROX race.
Outside of the CrossFit Games, Ricky has competed in several notable CrossFit competitions, including TYR Wodapalooza in January 2023, where he took home first place amongst stout competition.
Here are a few of Ricky’s listed stats:
- 5k: 17:32
- Clean & Jerk: 365lbs / 165kg
- Back Squat: 450lbs / 205kg
James Newbury
In addition to James’ 1:04:36 at HYROX Sydney in 2023, he has completed several Mixed Doubles races with various partners, as well as a mixed relay. Newbury has competed at the following HYROX events in 2024:
- Perth
- Brisbane
- Melbourne
Kristi Eramo O’Connell
Out of all the elite CrossFitters who have tried HYROX, Kristi might have put up the most impressive performance. Before CrossFit, Kristi was competitive in triathlon, and running has been a more integral part of her training compared to most CrossFit athletes. She’s completed several road running races, including the 2022 Columbus Marathon in a time of 3:04.
She returned to the Columbus Marathon in 2024 and ran a half-marathon in 1:23:21.
In April of 2024, she completed her first 50k ultramarathon, finishing 14th out of 194 women.
In 2024, Kristi took on HYROX Houston and finished first overall with an impressive time of 1:04:37.
Chandler Smith
Chandler Smith teamed up with Joshua Al-Chamaa to complete a men’s pro doubles HYROX in New York in 2024. They put up an impressive 56:57 and finished second overall.
Joshua has been to the CrossFit Games several times as a team member of CrossFit Invictus. The Invictus team won the CrossFit Games in 2023 after finishing third the year before.
Katelin Van Zyl
In addition to Katelin’s 1:15:51 at HYROX Sydney in 2023, in which she finished second, she also competed in mixed doubles at 2024 HYROX Brisbane with her brother, Johann, a retired professional cyclist.
Mal O’Brien
Mal O’Brien competed in 2024 at HYROX Houston in the mixed doubles division with her agent, Cooper Marsh. They finished with a time of 1:00:35, finishing third out of 148 teams.
At the same event, Mal also teamed up with Julian Marquez, Patrick O’Connell, and Megan Ruble to run a mixed relay.
Mikaela Norman
Mikaela is probably the most experienced elite-level CrossFit athlete when it comes to HYROX. She has competed in 9 races between 2022-2024, several of which were US, European, or world championship races.
Mikaela held the old HYROX world record back in 2022 for Pro Women, along with the Pro Women Doubles record.
She competed at the 2022 CrossFit Games on a team.
CrossFit Athletes We’d Like to See Try a HYROX
Lazar Đukić
Sadly, Lazar passed away in a tragic accident at the 2024 CrossFit Games.
Kristin Holte
Kristin competed at the CrossFit Games from 2014-2021, finishing as high as 2nd in 2019. Kristin dominates almost every endurance event.
Holte recently had a child, but we would love to see her make a comeback to competition in the HYROX space.
Update: Kristin has confirmed she’s competing at the Dubai Fitness Championship in December 2024. Here’s to hoping she might give HYROX a try soon.
Haley Adams
Haley is known for her running, and with the current level of CrossFit training she already has, there’s plenty of strength to get her through a HYROX. After taking a break from competitive CrossFit in 2023 to find a better balance between life & training, Haley finished 5th at the 2024 CrossFit Games.
Other elite CrossFit athletes we’d like to see race HYROX:
- Jeff Adler – Jeff has worked with endurance coach Chris Hinshaw to take his running to the next level. The 2023 CrossFit Games champ could excel at HYROX.
- Jonne Koski – Jonne consistently wins the opening event at the CrossFit Games, which is typically a longer, endurance-based event.
- Rich Froning – While Froning probably reached his peak fitness years ago, it’d still be fun to watch the 4-time CrossFit Games champion take a crack at HYROX.
- Emily Rolfe – Emily has competed at the CrossFit Games several years in a row, and consistently shines when it comes to endurance events.
- Gabriela Migała – Gabi is another excellent endurance athlete in the CrossFit space.
- Roman Khrennikov – When it comes to the ski, row, and fan bike, Roman is one of the best in the game. He’s not a bad runner, either.
- Travis Mayer – Travis is another CrossFitter with excellent endurance. He dominated “The Capitol” event at the 2022 CrossFit Games, which included a 3.5 mile run.
- Jelle Hoste
