The Spartan Farm Experience: A Multiday Endurance Event to Test Your Limits

Spartan recently announced a new event, inspired by previous challenges like the Agoge, Hurricane Heat, and infamous Spartan Death Race. The Spartan Farm Experience is a multi-day event taking place on Joe DeSena’s farm in Pittsfield, Vermont, the birthplace of Spartan. The event runs from June 27-29, 2025 and is limited to 100 participants.

The Spartan Farm Experience isn’t your typical Spartan challenge. It’s a plunge into Spartan’s history and where the mindset of “Do Hard Shit” was forged. The raw, unforgiving terrain will test your mind, body, and will to endure.

The Event

Exactly what you’ll be doing at the event is unclear, but that’s by design. The event description laid out by Spartan is intentionally vague, but written in a way to invite only the most serious and dedicated athletes.

“Prepare to immerse yourself in the true Spartan spirit as we gather for an unforgettable event filled with intense challenges, camaraderie, and the unmistakable energy of the Spartan community. Set in Pittsfield, Vermont—the birthplace of Spartan—participants will face a series of raw, gritty challenges that laid the foundation for iconic events like the Hurricane Heats, Death Race, Agoge, and Mount Sparta Challenge. This rare opportunity is perfect for anyone looking to begin their journey of pushing beyond their limits and stepping into the Spartan Extreme Endurance Realm.”

We can reasonable assume…

• You’ll need some endurance if you plan to do well
• There will be plenty of mental challenges to go along with the physical ones
• You’ll get wet, and possibly be wet, for hours at a time
• Get plenty of sleep beforehand because you won’t get much on the farm
• You’ll be covering a lot of ground on foot, so start running those trails

There isn’t much more information on the official website. You can check back later to see if they provide updates, but I wouldn’t count on it. Prepare for one of the craziest endurance challenges you’ve ever experienced.

The Spartan Farm Experience will take place on Joe DeSena’s farm:

The farm is 15 minutes north of the famous Killington Ski Resort, and about 90 minutes south of Vermont’s largest city, Burlington.

Mandatory Gear List

As with most of Joe’s crazy endurance events, there is a mandatory gear list. You are required to bring the following:

• 5 gallon bucket
• 2 sets of work gloves
• 1 sturdy backpack
• 1 hydration bladder/bottles
• 9 minimum: MREs
• 1 whistle on a lanyard
• 1 waterproof headlamp +red lights +extra batteries
• 1 stopwatch (wristwatch/phone/garmin, Etc. not permitted)
• 1 green and 1 red chem lights
• 1 flint & magnesium
• 1 sunscreen, 1 lip balm
• toiletries (toothbrush, soap, Etc.)
• multiple pairs of extra clothes, socks, hats, rain jacket, etc.
• 1 pair of trail running shoes
• 1 white tee shirt that fits
• 1 sharpie marker
• 1 small notebook or index cards
• 4 wood screws
• 1 screw driver
• 1 bivy sleeping bag
• 1 rock with the Spartan helmet or dr skull painted on it

Cost & Signup

The Farm Experience endurance challenge costs $240 (fees included) and appears to be limited to about 100 participants.
