On Saturday, February 17th, 2024, Jarrett Newby set a new world record for a 100# rucking half marathon at the Lake Effect Half Marathon in Minoa, NY. The previous record was 2:10:30, set on May 21, 2023 by Cory Asimus (source).
Jarrett is no stranger to running with weight. In the Instagram comments, Katie Knight referred to him as “THE RUCKING GOAT 🐐,” while Meg Jacoby called him “the king of weight running.”
Jarrett set the world record for DEKA FIT RUCK at DEKA FIT Northeast (Oaks, PA) in 2023 with a time of 35:42, surpassing the previous record set by Preston Burnett by over 2 minutes.

Half Marathon Ruck Splits
Newby was incredible consistent in his world record breaking effort. Every mile was within 22 seconds of each other, and if you take out his slowest & fastest miles, he was within 14 seconds on every mile.
Jarrett averaged an 8:14/mi. (5:07/km) over the entire 13.1 mile course. Here were his splits:

Jarrett’s GORUCK Rucksack
It appears Newby was wearing the GORUCK Rucker 4.0 during his half marathon record. The Rucker 4.0 has two weight plate pockets. The larger one can hold up to 45 pounds and the smaller one up to 30 pounds. There is additional room to add more weight, sandbags, etc., which Jarrett had to have done in order to hit the 100 pound mark.
There’s a chance that Jarrett used the Long Range Rucker, which comes in 33L and 39L sizes to accommodate more weight. The 39L Long Range Rucker is currently on sale for $157.50, almost $70 off the original price.
60# Rucking Half Marathon Record
In our research for this article, we also discovered that Jarrett owns the 60# rucking half marathon world record as well. He set that record on May 7, 2023 in Binghamton, NY at the Binghamton Bridge Run half marathon with a time of 1:33:29, averaging 7:10/mi (4:27/km).
What About a Rucking Marathon Record?
Several of the rucking marathon records look well within Jarrett’s reach (see below). It’ll be interesting to see if Jarrett has any desire to go after them. Rucking a marathon would likely put him in the 4 to 5 hour range. That’s probably a bit longer than Jarrett currently trains for, but hybrid athletes never cease to amaze with their versatility.
